‘Malakout’, directed by Farnoush Abedi, is competing at the underway edition of the Canadian event.
The film is about a pianist who tries to bring his wife back to life, but a related deal awakens the devil inside him.
“Music was his passion. Love was his masterpiece,” a synopsis for ‘Malakout’ reads.
The film received more than 40 awards at international festivals, including the Celluloid Screams: Sheffield Horror Film Festival in the UK and the Wolves Independent International Film Festival in Lithuania.
‘Malakout’ was also named the best short film at the Cryptshow Festival in Spain and garnered two awards at the Florida Animation Festival in the US.
In addition, the animation received an honorary diploma at the Silk Road International Film Festival in Ireland and the best animation award at the Black Country Horror Shorts Film Festival in the UK.
The Nickel Independent Film Festival kicked off on June 12 and will run until June 18.
